Where laser safety equipment is used on award work, an employee appointed by the employer as a laser safety officer (qualified for laser safety duties in addition to ordinary work) must be paid the daily amount, per day or part day, in clause 21.4(h) of the current award (consolidated to 16 September 2026, read 30 September 2026) while performing those duties. A laser means any device other than class 1 that can produce or amplify electromagnetic radiation from 100 nanometres to 1 millimetre mainly by controlled stimulated emission. The allowance is paid flat, without any premium or penalty.
