Where a project is somewhere with no reasonable board and lodging, the workforce exceeds available accommodation, or continuous concrete pours or shifts make camp living necessary, the employer must reimburse all costs of the employee arranging camp or caravan accommodation, unless it provides suitable camp or caravan accommodation itself. An employee living in camp or caravan accommodation without free messing must be paid the weekly camping allowance for each complete week available for work, or the daily amount for part weeks including weekend days when in camp and available on the working days either side, both in clause 21.10(d)(v) of the current award (consolidated to 16 September 2026, read 30 September 2026). No allowance is payable for a day of unapproved absence, or for the weekend if that absence falls on the day before or after it.
