Australia OGTR Guidelines for Certification of a PC2 Aquatic Facility (Version 3.1) B21: Biological safety cabinet for aerosol-producing procedures

What does B21 require?

Where procedures are planned with GM micro-organisms of Risk Group 2, or with GMOs able to persist on people or clothing, and they will give off aerosols containing GMOs, the facility must have a biological safety cabinet, or other aerosol containment equipment the Regulator has specifically approved in writing. The guideline notes that centrifuging or vortexing GM micro-organisms in sealed tubes need not happen in a cabinet, so long as the tubes are opened only inside one.
