The design of plant listed in Part 1 of Schedule 5 must be registered, and an altered design (an alteration that may affect health or safety) re-registered, except a tower or gantry crane relocated with only a site-specific supporting structure or foundation design; items of plant listed in Part 2 of Schedule 5 must be registered so that they are inspected by a competent person and safe to operate. Designs and items registered by a corresponding regulator are recognised and need not be registered again (s 42 of the Act makes using unregistered plant an offence).
