Relevant information about matters that may affect health and safety must be shared with workers and their representatives early enough to consider and give feedback. It may include WHS policies and procedures, technical guidance on hazards, risks and controls, hazard reports and risk assessments, proposed changes to the workplace, systems, plant or substances, and incident, illness and injury data protected for confidentiality. It should be presented clearly with regard to literacy and cultural and language diversity, with simplified material and diagrams, noting that young workers and those with limited English may not speak up and may prefer to communicate through a representative or interpreter. Face-to-face is usually most effective, and phone, video, email, intranet and noticeboards can also be used, with new material highlighted.
