Australia Model Code of Practice: Work Health and Safety Consultation, Cooperation and Coordination
Section 2: When to consult with workers – Australia Model Code of Practice: Work Health and Safety Consultation, Cooperation and Coordination

Australia Model Code of Practice: Work Health and Safety Consultation, Cooperation and Coordination 2.1: 2.1 Consult when managing risks and give representatives access to hazard information

In deciding how to eliminate or minimise risks the PCBU must consult the workers who will be affected, directly or through their health and safety representative, and must review controls if consultation indicates it is necessary. Walking the workplace, talking to workers and surveying them about issues such as bullying, stress and muscular aches helps find hazards. Workers and representatives may ask for information such as technical guidance on plant and substances, and it should not be withheld because it is technical. The WHS Act requires access for a work group's representatives to information about hazards, associated risks and the health and safety of workers in the group, excluding personal or medical information that identifies a worker without consent.
