Certain plant designs and items must be registered, as listed in Schedule 5 of the WHS Regulations (reproduced in Appendix B of the code). Registrable plant designs must be registered before they are supplied and registrable items must be registered before being commissioned for use by a PCBU. Design registration covers a completed design from which many items can be made; item registration applies to each specific item and ensures a competent person inspected it as safe to operate. A person with management or control of plant should obtain a copy of the design registration from the supplier.
