Section 1: Duty holders, consultation, training and registration – Australia Model Code of Practice: Managing the Risks of Plant in the Workplace

Australia Model Code of Practice: Managing the Risks of Plant in the Workplace 1.2a: 1.2 Eliminate or minimise physical and psychosocial risks from plant (primary duty)

A PCBU must eliminate risks, both physical and psychosocial, arising from plant in the workplace, or where that is not reasonably practicable minimise them so far as is reasonably practicable (WHS Act s 19). The duty includes ensuring, so far as is reasonably practicable, the provision and maintenance of safe plant and the safe use, handling, storage and transport of plant. The WHS Regulations add more specific requirements for plant, hazardous chemicals, airborne contaminants and psychosocial risks. A PCBU must also consult workers and may have duties to consult, cooperate and coordinate with other duty holders.
