Australia Model Code of Practice: Managing Risks of Hazardous Chemicals in the Workplace J2: Appendix J: Control unodourised LP gas and dimethyl ether

Unodourised LP gas cannot be detected by smell, and dimethyl ether, a highly flammable gas, is often used as a propellant. Reduce risk by keeping storage and handling to a minimum and limiting use to cases with no less hazardous alternative, such as aerosol propellant; storing and handling in a well ventilated area, in a room built for the purpose with explosion ventilation, or in the open, with access limited to essential personnel; and installing gas detection where an explosive atmosphere could develop, with an automatic audible alarm and a visual display that triggers action before dangerous levels.
