Australia Model Code of Practice: Managing Psychosocial Hazards at Work A10: Appendix A: Control a poor physical environment

A poor physical environment means unpleasant or hazardous conditions: hazardous tasks and hazardous conditions such as unsafe machinery or chemicals, uncomfortable or poorly fitted PPE, conditions that affect concentration such as noise, heat or poor lighting, poorly maintained amenities and equipment, and accommodation or facilities that cause fatigue. The PCBU must eliminate or minimise physical hazards so far as reasonably practicable and should treat the physical environment as a psychosocial hazard source. Specific WHS duties may also apply, and Safe Work Australia holds further guidance on physical hazards and the work environment.
