The PCBU must consult workers when identifying hazards and assessing risks from the work, when deciding how to eliminate or minimise those risks, when deciding on the adequacy of welfare facilities, when proposing changes that may affect worker health or safety, and when deciding procedures for consultation, resolving health and safety issues, monitoring worker health, monitoring workplace conditions and giving information and training (WHS Act s 49). Regular consultation is better than consulting only when an event forces it, because it lets problems be found and fixed early.
