No worker should fully lift a person, other than a small infant, unaided: use mechanical aids, assistive devices or help from another worker. All people handling is a potential source of injury, to be eliminated or minimised under the hierarchy, and the safety of the person handled matters as well as the worker's, including the person's physical condition and non-physical characteristics such as ability to understand, communicate, behave and assist. Controls include a mobility risk assessment to maximise the person's ability to help, moving the person to a place that does not constrain the worker (for example a shower trolley), assessing and planning the task, mechanical aids and personnel to avoid a hazardous manual task, adequate supervision and resources where a device needs two or more operators so staff under time pressure do not try alone, planning for people attached to medical equipment, easy access to the location and storage of aids, adequate aids and devices, and training, instruction and supervision for their safe use.
The graph holds this control, the 0 it maps to, and the evidence behind each claim, over MCP and REST.
