Mechanical equipment may remove or reduce the need to lift, carry or support items, animals or people, such as conveyors, cranes and manipulators, hoists, dock levellers, turntables, springs and gas struts, winches, forklifts and pallet trucks, lift tables and stackers, vacuum or magnet lifters and panel lifters. Aids should suit the load and work, be adequately rated, be as light as their function allows, be adjustable for users, easy to use, suit the environment, be kept near the work area without obstructing it, be covered by a maintenance program that keeps effort low and safety assured, and be introduced with instruction and training. When introducing an aid the PCBU must ensure so far as reasonably practicable that workers get adequate information, training, instruction and supervision so the new arrangement creates no additional risk.
