Schedule 2 Maintenance accreditation requirements (requirements 2 to 9) – Australia Heavy Vehicle National Law Safety Management System Standard 2026

Australia Heavy Vehicle National Law Safety Management System Standard 2026 S2-2: Maintenance accreditation, responsibility and accountability: responsibilities for the maintenance life cycle (administration, operation, verification) allocated to identified competent roles, exercised through regular review of vehicle condition and outcomes, with senior management ensuring resources

What does S2-2 require?

Schedule 2 applies where an operator seeks general safety accreditation as an alternative means of complying with heavy vehicle maintenance, inspection or roadworthiness requirements under an Australian road law. The maintenance system relies on clear allocation of responsibility for managing, operating and verifying vehicle condition controls to personnel nominated by the operator, who have the competence and resources to discharge safety duties, with accountability explicit and integrated into governance. The criteria: responsibilities for the maintenance life cycle (administration, operation and verification) are clearly allocated to identified roles; those holding them are competent; allocations reflect actual arrangements and are actively exercised through regular review of vehicle condition and maintenance outcomes; and senior management ensures the resources needed to maintain standards are available.
