A literature search lists the databases and journals searched, the search criteria, every paper found and, in full, every paper relied on; data should identify its source, authors and year, use validated methods, represent the Australian and New Zealand populations and be analysed with appropriate statistics; safety studies should follow good laboratory practice and recognised test guidelines with quality assurance evidence and raw data; surveys and epidemiological or intervention studies should report design, sampling, power and results as the guideline sets out. Where mandatory data cannot be provided, a reason should be given.
