Over the apprenticeship, a school-based apprentice must get the same amount of time for off-the-job training (structured RTO training separate from normal duties) as an equivalent full-time apprentice. The term is as set in the training agreement but may not exceed 6 years. They progress through the wage scale advancing 12 months on the scale for every 2 years employed as an apprentice, or by competency where the award provides it; the scales assume a standard 4-year full-time apprenticeship (or 3 years where applicable). On conversion to full-time, time as a full-time apprentice counts for progression in addition to progression already earned. They are entitled pro rata to all other award conditions.
