Where test and inspection records are kept they should include a register of all equipment, a record of formal inspections and tests, a repair register, and a record of faulty equipment with the service or corrective action taken (regulators may make records mandatory, and voluntary extra tests should also be recorded). Records should be kept for seven years or any longer period a regulator requires, and may be electronic. Where intervals are set by a documented risk assessment, all the documentation of that assessment must be kept for seven years or the regulator's period.
