Where applicable to the item, in-service inspection and testing covers: looking over the outside of the item and of its supply cord or other connecting means; testing protective earth continuity on Class I items, EPODs, cord sets and extension sets; an insulation test, done either by measuring insulation resistance or by measuring leakage current; and a check of correct polarity of the live connections in cord extension sets and cord sets fitted with rewireable plugs, rewireable extension sockets or rewireable connectors. Items with an electrically held relay may need rated voltage applied before they can be tested.
