Every item gets a visual and physical inspection that checks: that the item and its accessories, plugs, connectors and extension sockets show no evident damage, defect or alteration, and for discolouration pointing to heat, chemical or moisture exposure; that flexible cords are securely anchored at the equipment, plug, connector and extension socket (flexing the cord at entry and clamp points helps find broken strands or loose connections); that cords show no exposed or twisted inner cores, no sheath cut, abraded, twisted or damaged far enough to show core insulation, and no bare conductors or taped repairs (insulation tape may not be used to repair a damaged cord, sheath or core insulation); on EPODs, that the maximum-load warning is present and readable; that operating controls are secure, aligned and identified; that covers and guards are secured and work as the maker intended; and that ventilation openings are clear. The 2022 preview ends after item (g); the 2010 edition's further checks of insulated pin plugs and extension socket shrouds for damage, and that the plug's current rating suits the equipment's rating, are taken as continuing.
