Fixed or stationary equipment connected by a flexible cable or cord (equipment wiring in AS/NZS 3000 terms) whose cord stays still in normal use, is not at risk of damage and does not sit in a hostile environment is not required by this standard to be routinely tested. Where the cord is flexed because the equipment gets moved, even if only to restock, clean or maintain it, the item must be tested in service; for such items a visual inspection and an earth test are enough, since insulation testing would need disconnection, and doing the earth test on them calls for additional knowledge and processes.
