When installing any device: apply no heat to it; fit line strainers (outside fire services) ahead of pressure type and spill resistant vacuum breakers, double check valves and double detector check valves, reduced pressure zone and detector devices, with strainer perforations as in Table 4.6.1; fit resilient-seated isolating valves immediately upstream of the strainer (or device) and immediately downstream for every testable device; flush the piping before connecting; install no unprotected bypass; follow 4.6.3; protect devices from damage and freezing; install in parallel where supply must be continuous; and make in-line devices removable and replaceable.
