Once installed, and before use, every testable backflow device is commissioned and tested under AS/NZS 2845.3. RPZDs, DCV assemblies, PVBs and registered break tanks or air gaps are allowed only where a maintenance program registers the devices and certifies their testing; without one they must not be fitted and ordinary air gap rules apply. Ongoing testing may be set by state or territory law (Australia) or the building warrant of fitness (New Zealand).
