The set's bonding system joins the engine frame, generator frame, exposed conductive parts enclosing equipment and wiring, socket-outlet earth terminals and the frame connection. Where the set supplies an installation with an earthing system, the bonding system is earthed by connection to the installation's earthing system, not by a separate electrode, and the winding neutral or star point connects to the installation neutral rather than directly to the bonding system (or the windings feed through a protection system that disconnects on an earth fault). Where a set supplies equipment directly or an installation without an earthing system, each item's exposed conductive parts connect to the set's bonding system. The 2017 clause also carries exceptions (2.8.2) whose wording is not held.
