All outgoing circuits from a set must have overcurrent protection at the set unless AS/NZS 3000 allows another position or omission. Because available fault current depends on alternator type, regulator and engine power, devices must be chosen from overcurrent and alternator data. Exception: cables from a set to its switchboard need no short-circuit protection where installed to minimise short-circuit risk, for example inside one generator room of at least 2 hours fire rating as sheathed cables in a dedicated duct, on a dedicated or segregated tray, or as insulated busway up to the first protective device.
