The changeover device must be chosen to keep the functions of, and avoid damage to, the installation it supplies (for example overlapping neutrals, RCD operation, continued UPS operation). In New Zealand a set supplying an installation must connect only to the main switchboard, unless it connects to a distribution switchboard and ceases supply when that board's supply is interrupted, and other sources are disconnected, a MEN arrangement is established and earth potential rise protection is provided.
