Except where another authority prescribes the location (early childhood centres, pool barriers and similar), controls sit above a level surface: those grasped or turned 900 mm to 1100 mm above floor and, in 2021, 500 mm or more clear of an internal corner (subject to AS 1735.12); push-only controls such as panic bars 900 mm to 1200 mm; touch controls 900 mm to 1250 mm up and 500 mm or more clear of an internal corner; sliding door handles at least 60 mm from the jamb or stop when open or closed. Manual controls for power-operated doors are placed on the path 500 mm or more clear of an internal corner and, in 2021, 500 mm to 1000 mm out from the swing arc of a hinged leaf or clear of a surface-mounted slider when open.
