AS 1428.1:2021 Design for Access and Mobility - General Requirements for Access, New Building Work 10.3: 10.3 Circulation spaces at doorways (swinging, sliding and power-operated doors)

Every doorway, gate or similar entry on the path has circulation spaces, with gradient and crossfall no steeper than 1 in 40, used in combination so the door can be passed both ways, applying in mirror image and interpolated for intermediate widths, and allowed to overlap other circulation spaces. Swinging doors take the space set by the clear opening width in Figure 31 (for example, a front approach to an 850 mm door opening away needs 1450 mm of length and 510 mm on the latch side; a hinge-side approach to a door opening toward the user needs 1670 mm of length and 900 mm on the latch side). Sliding doors (cavity or surface-mounted) take the Figure 32 spaces, and a surface-mounted slider adds the door thickness to the spaces on the side it hangs, unless automatic. At power-operated doors the side circulation space is needed only on the side of approach, and none for a front approach.
