ACT Residential Tenancies Act 1997 s11B-reg1B-cl53A: s 11B, Regulation s 1B, Sch 1 cl 53A Smoke alarms installed and maintained

A lessor must not enter into an agreement unless smoke alarms are installed, and must install and maintain them throughout the tenancy. Alarms must comply with AS 3786, be functional and be on or near the ceiling, battery-powered or hard-wired, located in every corridor or hallway associated with a bedroom on each storey that contains a bedroom (or between the bedroom area and the rest of the premises if there is no hallway), and on each storey with no bedroom. The tenant replaces batteries when needed (cl 63A).
