Based on its business model and risk, the AEO secures buildings, monitors and controls perimeters and keeps unauthorised people out of its sites, vehicles, docks and cargo zones (with extra precautions where access control is impossible): intrusion-resistant construction maintained by inspection and repair, locked or monitored windows, gates and fences, managed locks and keys, adequate lighting of entrances, cargo areas, fence lines and parking, controlled gates, controlled parking with plates available to Customs, access only for identified persons, vehicles and goods, perimeter barriers, restricted document and cargo areas with challenge procedures, alarm or access control systems and marked restricted areas; it gives Customs access to security monitoring on request. Customs seeks such access by agreement and allows equivalent alternative measures.
