The AEO keeps a security manual referencing WCO guidance for preserving cargo integrity in its custody; ensures written sealing procedures for itself and partners with sealing duties, use of smart devices or mechanical seals meeting the current ISO standard, controlled seal issue by designated staff, and reporting of compromised seals, cargo or conveyances; inspects conveyance structure and access controls (a seven-point inspection: front wall, left side, right side, floor, ceiling or roof, inside and outside doors, outside and undercarriage); regularly reviews controls against unauthorised access or improper handling; stores cargo in secure areas and reports intrusions; verifies carriers collecting or delivering; compares cargo against its documents where feasible; and controls cargo within, leaving and in transit from storage. Customs, where legal, invites the AEO to attend physical inspections or informs it promptly afterwards.
