If an employee's employment authorization expires, the employer, recruiter or referrer must reverify on Form I-9 (Supplement B, Reverification and Rehire) no later than the date the authorization expires, following the same document presentation and examination procedures, including any authorised alternative procedure; otherwise the person may no longer be employed, recruited or referred. The employee must present a document that shows continuing eligibility or a new grant of authorization (the employee's choice of a List A or List C document; identity documents are not reverified), and the employer must note its number and expiration date and sign. Where an Employment Authorization Document was presented with a Form I-797C notice showing an automatic extension, reverification falls due at the end of the extended period rather than the card's face date. United States citizens, noncitizen nationals, lawful permanent residents and expired List B documents are never reverified.
