US Form I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification (8 USC 1324a and 8 CFR Part 274a)
Form I-9 completion, document examination, receipts, reverification and rehires (8 CFR 274a.2(a) to (d)) – US Form I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification (8 USC 1324a and 8 CFR Part 274a)

US Form I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification (8 USC 1324a and 8 CFR Part 274a) 274a.2(b)(1)(ii)-(iv): Within three business days of the hire, physically examine the employee's original documents (or use an authorised alternative procedure) and complete and sign Section 2

What does 274a.2(b)(1)(ii)-(iv) require?

Within three business days of the hire the employer, its agent or anyone acting in its interest must physically examine the original documentation the employee presents to establish identity and employment authorization, ensure the documents reasonably appear genuine and to relate to the individual, and complete and sign Section 2 (Employer Review and Verification), recording the document title, issuing authority, number and any expiration date; an employer hiring for fewer than three business days must do so at the time of hire and may not accept a receipt. Where the Secretary has authorised an alternative examination procedure by Federal Register notice (currently the remote live-video examination available to employers in good standing in E-Verify), the employer may use it in place of physical examination for the employees and conditions the notice covers. A recruiter or referrer for a fee must comply within three business days of the referred person's hire and may designate an agent, including the employer, to complete the verification.
