Part 390: General applicability, registration, marking, accident records and ELD requirements – US Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (49 CFR Parts 350 to 399)

US Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (49 CFR Parts 350 to 399) 390.15-19: Accident register for three years with the required fields, assistance in investigations, and USDOT registration with MCS-150 biennial updates (390.15, 390.19, 390.19A, 390.200 to 390.209)

What does 390.15-19 require?

A motor carrier must make all records and information available to FMCSA on request, must give all reasonable assistance in accident investigations, and must maintain an accident register for three years after each accident (one resulting in a fatality, bodily injury requiring immediate medical treatment away from the scene, or disabling damage requiring tow-away), recording the date, city or location, driver name, number of injuries and fatalities, whether hazardous materials other than fuel spilled, and copies of all accident reports required by State or other agencies (390.15). The carrier must register with FMCSA on Form MCS-150 before beginning operations to obtain a USDOT number and must update the registration every 24 months in its assigned month (and within 30 days of a change of name, address or other registration information), using the Unified Registration System and keeping the registration current to retain operating authority (390.19, 390.19A, 390.201 to 390.209).
