UNESCO Recommendation on the Ethics of AI V1: paras 13 to 16 Respect, protect and promote human rights, fundamental freedoms and human dignity through the AI life cycle

What does V1 require?

Human dignity, the equal and intrinsic worth of every person, is the basis of the human rights system and has to be upheld at every stage of an AI system's life. Nobody, individually or as a community, may be harmed or made subordinate by AI in any way, and AI should improve quality of life; people who rely on AI for care or help (children, older people, people with disabilities, the sick) must not be treated as objects. Every sector involved, public or private, is bound to honour human rights instruments, and AI should give people new ways to exercise their rights rather than eroding them.
