SQF Code Edition 9 - Safe Quality Food 2.6.4: Crisis Management Planning

What does 2.6.4 require?

Senior management documents a crisis management plan based on known potential dangers that could affect the ability to deliver safe food (fire, flood, drought, tsunami and other extreme weather; war or civil unrest; pandemic; IT failure; power or refrigeration loss; an ammonia leak; industrial action), setting out the methods and responsibilities for coping, and including at least a senior manager responsible for decisions, oversight and initiating action; a nominated and trained crisis team; controls so responses do not compromise product safety; measures to isolate and identify affected product; measures to verify food is acceptable before release; an up-to-date alert list of crisis contacts that includes customers in the supply chain; where legal and expert advice will come from; and who speaks internally and who speaks to authorities, outside bodies and the media (2.6.4.1). Each year, at minimum, the plan is reviewed, exercised and verified, any gaps and fixes are written down, and records of the reviews are kept (2.6.4.2).
