An employer or self-employed person conducts and documents a risk assessment of physical agent exposure, so far as reasonably practicable before exposure and thereafter at intervals of no more than 24 months, carried out by a competent person. It includes at least a complete hazard identification, identification of everyone who could be affected and of how employees could be affected, analysis, evaluation and prioritisation of the physical agent risks, and previous assessments and monitoring reports, and it allows, where relevant, for the different effects on men, on women, on young employees and on vulnerable employees. The employer considers the competent person's recommendations and develops a documented action plan to implement them, and reviews the assessment, in the same manner, when it is no longer valid, when controls are no longer effective, when technological or scientific advances allow better control, when the workplace, work methods, type of work or the plant, machinery or PPE used to control exposure change, after an incident, or when surveillance shows an adverse health effect that a physical agent helped cause.
