Members and firms must deliver good-quality, diligent service. Example behaviours: understanding the client's needs before accepting work; agreeing scope, limitations and timescales; firms telling clients they are RICS-regulated and may have to disclose records to RICS; promptly telling clients of, and agreeing, proposed changes to terms, fees or costs; working promptly, carefully, skilfully and diligently and in line with RICS technical standards; communicating the material information behind advice, clearly and understandably; making referrals only in the client's interest and disclosing any benefit from them; keeping records detailed enough to answer client questions and to allow quality assurance or regulatory audit; encouraging sustainable solutions that limit harm and balance economic, social and environmental benefit; knowing what relevant technology offers and what risks it carries (3.11); checking that all data used is accurate, current, securely held and lawfully usable and shareable (3.12); and firms running effective quality assurance.
