The employer ensures every moving part of machinery, of equipment and of tools is effectively safeguarded unless their construction or location prevents contact, that machinery is erected, installed, operated, stored, serviced, adjusted, maintained, repaired and taken down as the manufacturer specifies, that operating controls are placed and protected against unintentional activation and identified, that each operator has unimpeded access to a stopping device, that electrically driven machinery has a lockable disconnecting means in the supply circuit, that nobody works on machinery that has been shut down to be cleaned, maintained or repaired until it is isolated, locked out and the section 30.7 steps are complete, and that sufficient space surrounds each machine. Effective safeguards are provided where a worker may contact rotating or moving drive parts (belts, rollers, gears, shafts and keyways, pulleys and sprockets, chains and ropes, spindles and drums, counterweights, flywheels, couplings); safeguards are not removed or defeated except for maintenance and are restored before use; abrasive wheels are marked with and run within rated speed and guarded; push sticks are used for cutting and shaping machinery; sawmill lead sawyer stands are shielded; tumbler access doors are interlocked; low open agitator tanks are guardrailed; and conveyors meet the clearance, walkway, under-guard, emergency stop and lock-out before standing or clearing rules of sections 30.16 to 30.19.
