OSHA Safety and Health Regulations for Construction (29 CFR Part 1926) 1926.1002: 1926.1002 Protective frames (roll-over protective structures, known as ROPS) for wheel-type agricultural and industrial tractors used in construction

Sets requirements for protective frames on wheel-type industrial and agricultural tractors in construction use, aimed at minimizing operator injury from accidental upsets in normal operation. For tractors manufactured before July 15, 2019, protective frames must satisfy the testing and performance criteria of SAE J334a (for protective frames) and SAE J168 (for protective enclosures), as applicable, both incorporated by reference in 1926.6, or comply with ISO 5700:2013. For tractors built from July 15, 2019 onward, the frames must meet ISO 5700:2013 (static test method and acceptance conditions for ROPS on agricultural and forestry tractors) or ISO 3471:2008 (laboratory testing of ROPS on earth-moving machinery), both incorporated by reference in 1926.6. Overhead protection requirements are in 1926.1003. Definitions: an agricultural tractor is a wheeled vehicle with over 20 engine horsepower, used in construction, that is built to provide power for pulling, propelling or driving implements, the SAE J333a-1970 definition being adopted for this subpart since Part 1926 covers only construction; an industrial tractor is a wheel-type tractor with over 20 engine horsepower (excluding the rubber-tired loaders and dozers of 1926.1001) used for work like digging, loading, landscaping, grounds keeping, construction services and highway maintenance.
