Verification determines the outcome of the technique used: the results are inspected to confirm the technique completed successfully. For destructive methods on hard copy or ISM, the remnants are inspected and the equipment used identified. For non-destructive methods verification depends on the media type: clear and logical purge techniques using tools and systems are verified by checking the tools' completion status and looking for errors and anomalies and checking the ISM's health; for physical purge techniques the equipment is checked to confirm it completed its operation, with the ISM possibly unusable until device software and configuration are re-established, which limits further inspection. Unless organisational policy explicitly requires it, elaborate full or representative sampling of ISM contents after clear or purge is not necessary.
