Chapter 4: Understanding the risk from loss of supply – NHS England HTM 06-01 Electrical Services Supply and Distribution (2017 Edition)

NHS England HTM 06-01 Electrical Services Supply and Distribution (2017 Edition) 4.1: Contingency plans for supply failure and relationship with the electricity supplier

Electrical failure can happen anywhere regardless of design standard, so suitable risk management and practical emergency contingency plans should always be ready to use, and the design should maintain supply within the time bands patients and staff need (more than 15 s, 15 s to 5 s, 5 s to 0.5 s, under 0.5 s, no-break). Organisations should establish a formal link with the electricity supplier, possibly by registering for priority user status with a nominated client manager.
