NFPA 70 National Electrical Code 2023 Article 700 Emergency Systems 700.11: 700.11 Class 2 powered emergency lighting systems

The mains-voltage feed to Class 2 emergency lighting controls, and the controls themselves, follow 700.10. Class 2 emergency circuits are marked at every box and enclosure, and on exposed cable, tray or raceway near every connector (inside 3 ft) and at least every 25 ft; they run in listed jacketed cable or a Chapter 3 method, bundled separately from or sleeved and barriered against other Class 2 circuits; and they are installed in raceway, cable tray, or type AC or MC cable, except short runs of up to 6 ft to a luminaire or control device and runs inside locked rooms that only qualified people can enter (2026: extended to Class 4 systems).
