NFPA 111-2025 Standard on Stored Electrical Energy Emergency and Standby Power Systems
Chapter 5: Energy sources, converters, inverters and accessories – NFPA 111-2025 Standard on Stored Electrical Energy Emergency and Standby Power Systems

NFPA 111-2025 Standard on Stored Electrical Energy Emergency and Standby Power Systems 5.2.1-5.2.2: 5.2.1 and 5.2.2 Bridging and inertia systems

Energy conversion equipment covers electrochemical and mechanical inertia devices with their controls. Bridging systems must hold the load for a finite time until the emergency or standby source takes over; permitted electrochemical bridges are on-line UPS taking load without a break, standby or off-line UPS taking load within a set time without disturbing the load, ultracapacitor systems within UPS or fuel cell systems, and static rectifier plants feeding dc loads without interruption. Flywheel systems must carry the load through momentary loss or sag until power returns or a standby source assumes it.
