ITIL 4 5.1.8: Project management

What does 5.1.8 require?

Makes sure every project in the organization is delivered successfully, by planning, delegating, monitoring and keeping control over all of a project's aspects while keeping the people involved motivated. Projects are temporary structures that produce outputs against an agreed business case, either alone or inside programmes, and are always viewed as part of the project portfolio. Waterfall fits requirements that are known and stable; Agile fits requirements that are uncertain and changing; and the organization weighs projects against business as usual in terms of resources, service levels, relationships and productivity. It gives strategic and tactical planning methods and tools, manages large improvement initiatives, supplies techniques for managing stakeholders, runs design and transition as projects or iterations, runs obtain/build and development as projects, and plans the handover into operation so that business as usual is not harmed.
