ISO/IEC 17025:2017 - General Requirements for Testing and Calibration 7.4: Handling of test or calibration items

Have a procedure covering how items are transported, received, handled, protected, stored, kept, and disposed of or returned, so that the items stay intact and the customer's and laboratory's interests are protected, with precautions against loss, damage, contamination or deterioration and with any handling instructions that come with the item followed. Have a system that identifies items unambiguously for as long as the laboratory is responsible for them, so that items cannot be mixed up physically or in records, and that copes with items being subdivided, grouped or transferred. On receipt, record any departure from the specified conditions; where there is doubt about an item's suitability or it does not match its description, consult the customer and record the outcome; and if the customer wants the work done despite the departure, add a disclaimer to the report. Where storage or conditioning environments are specified, maintain, monitor and record them.
