Clause 9 Performance evaluation – ISO 56002

ISO 56002 9.2: Internal audit

What does 9.2 require?

At planned intervals the organization should carry out internal audits that show whether the innovation management system satisfies what the organization itself requires of it, plus any other applicable requirements, and whether it is implemented and maintained effectively. To do so it should plan, set up, run and keep an audit programme that settles how often audits happen, the methods, who is responsible, planning requirements and how results are reported, taking account of how important the processes are and what earlier audits found; set the objectives, criteria and scope for every audit; choose auditors, and run audits, in a way that keeps them objective and impartial; report findings to the relevant managers; make corrections and take corrective action promptly; follow up, verifying the actions and reporting what that verification showed; and keep documented information as evidence of the programme, what the audits found and the follow-up.
