The organization should analyse and evaluate how it performs at innovation and how effective and efficient its innovation management system is. This should take in the value realized and redistributed, both measured against strategy and objectives and arising from innovation activities, and the elements of the system and how they interact, portfolios, support, initiatives and processes among them. How often and by what methods this is done may depend on the context and on how ambitious the organization is to improve. The results can show how well the context is understood, how committed leadership is, how effective the actions on opportunities and risks and the strategy have been, how effective and efficient support and processes are, how knowledge is shared and lessons drawn from successes and failures, and what improvements the system needs. Documented information recording the results should be kept.
