ISO 56002 8.3.3: Create concepts

What does 8.3.3 require?

Taking the opportunities that have been identified and defined as input, the organization should come up with new ideas, possible solutions, or new combinations of existing ones, drawing on sources inside and outside and using ideation, creative problem solving or other methods; examine, record and assess the ideas and possible solutions for risk, novelty, viability, feasibility, desirability, sustainability and IP rights; choose the ideas and solutions it prefers against criteria set in advance; turn them into concepts, each with a value proposition; and work out alternative ways the value could be realized, such as hypothetical business, operational or marketing models. Outputs: concepts with early value realization models ready for validation; for each concept, an understanding of which critical uncertainties or assumptions must be validated; and a first assessment of risk and novelty and of what they mean for further development.
