Evaluating OH&S performance should cover monitoring, measuring, analysing and evaluating data drawn from daily operations and business processes, in four steps: establish the status of the systems, the processes and the activities through checking, supervision or critical observation (monitor); obtain raw, unprocessed data (measure); analyse the data to produce information that permits evaluation, including the value of indicators; and evaluate OH&S performance by comparing that information with intended results. For high-risk or non-routine work the organization can monitor, measure, analyse and evaluate ahead of the job, while it runs and afterwards, capturing performance at each stage; for lower-risk work or stable processes monitoring can be less frequent.
