ISO 26262:2018 - Functional Safety for Road Vehicles 9:8: 8 Safety analyses

Safety analyses examine the consequences of faults and failures on the functions, behaviour and design of items and elements, qualitative (FMEA, FTA, HAZOP) at every level and quantitative at hardware level, to identify new hazards, the conditions leading to safety goal violations, the additional safety requirements and the evidence for the safety concept; part 11 4.1 and 4.4 restate their application to semiconductor components and the combination of bottom-up FMEA with top-down FTA. Its aim, per the SGS quotation, is to keep the chance that systematic or random hardware faults breach a safety goal acceptably small, by finding hazards the HARA missed, the faults or failures that could violate a safety goal or requirement and their causes, and by supporting safety measures, the evidence for safety concepts and the verification of concepts, requirements, design and test requirements.
